Real Roof's Roof Safety

Falls are one of the leading causes of death in the construction industry today.

Roofers encounter many hazards on the job, including hazards associated with working at heights and from ladders, power tools, electricity, noise, hazardous substances, and extreme temperatures.

Unless employers control these hazards, roofers risk serious injury, illness or death. In order to protect workers on roofing jobs, employers must identify the hazards present and take steps to address them.

At Real Roof Contracting we teach our employees safe practices to prevent falls, hazardous substance exposures, and other physical injuries. We follow OSHA’s safe practice guidelines for the roofing industry, and make sure that our employees get the OSHA training that they need.

Here are some basic roof safety guidelines that every roofer should follow:

• Keep the work area clean

• Prevent pedestrians from entering the work area, including around the dumpster

• Wear, hard hats, gloves, and eye protection

• Check antennas, and power lines

• Use safety ropes and harnesses

• Use proper footwear

• Place the ladder in an appropriate area on an appropriate surface

• Avoid walking on debris

• Avoid working in extreme weather

• Avoid stepping on weak or damaged roof areas
